My problems so far (Addictive Drums)

Hello

So, I'm a new owner of a Megadrum 32, and I'm having huge problems with it.

I can't for the life of me get it configured for Addictive Drums. Neither Megadrum Config Tool nor Megadrum Manager will load any settings at all from the Megadrum module.

Last night I finally got the snare (Yamaha DTXtreme III pad) to work, but there are two snare drum sounds on top of eachother, and sometimes they "flam" even though I am only tapping the pad with one stick. And the dynamics aren't what they should be, consistant tapping of the same volume gives out totally random dynamics, some hits are very soft and some are very loud. Also, the only way I can get a rimshot sound from the snare is to assign it to the rimclick zone, if I tap the rimshot area the output is always MIDI note 38, no matter what I assign to it.

I have been using the Megadrum Config Tool to change the settings, but now I can't get it to load anthing from the module anymore. For example SnareR shows up as midi note 0, everything is reset to defaults, but in the module menu the settings are the way I have made them. I also made custom curves, but those seem to be gone.

I honestly don't know what to do, I have no idea where to go from here.

First of all, MCT is not compatible with latest firmware versions. See viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1075 and http://www.megadrum.info/content/megadrum-manager
Second, if you have problems with MDM, and want to be able to configure MegaDrum from a PC, describe the problems in viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1504 and once these problems sorted out, you can start configuring MegaDrum from a PC.
Third, more details will help. As an example I cannot guess the firmware version in your MegaDrum.

Hello!

My firmware is 20101223

You can see screenshots of Megadrum Manager after I tried to load settings from the module. Nothing shows up, the notes assigned to the pads are different in the module. In the module I have SnareH at MIDI note 38 and SnareR at MIDI note 39, but in the Manager everything is at 0.

The second screenshot is the MIDI log after one single hit on the snare pad. There are many small hits registered even though I only hit the pad once with one stick. In Addictive Drums hitting the snare pad seems to trigger many random MIDI notes, see screenshot. I am only hitting the snare pad, and you can see that it has triggered MIDI notes 6, 8, 9, 11, 14, 36, 38 (this is the SnareH setting in the module), 60, 62, 79, 88 and 127.

So hitting the snare pad triggers all those MIDI notes, even though I only have SnareH to trigger note 38 and SnareR to trigger note 39.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Also, now when I'm navigating the menu in the module, every now and then (maybe every 20 seconds or so) a message pops up "Sent Kit # 40"

Trying to sort out several problems at a time. As I suggested, first try to sort out the MDM problem. If you don't do it now, forget about MDM and do all configuration changes via MegaDrum menu.

Ok.

I just had the drums set up OK, but when I followed your guide to setting up 3-zone Yamaha cymbals and did the "Set All EdgeSW" and "Set All BellSW" now I have only rimshots on snare and toms. There's a rimshot sound on every zone even though the note is different for each zone in the Megadrum. I don't know how to recover from it, all the settings I had seem to not work anymore, I worked on this for three days straight and now everything is gone. I restarted the module and now I get no sound at all from any pad.

Let's go one problem at a time then.

I have given up on the Manager, I'm changing all the settings directly in the Megadrum menu.

How do I get the snare to work? I have a Yamaha 3-zone snare.

I have Addictive Drums, in the map window MIDI note 38 and MIDI note 40 are the open hit sounds.

This is my Megadrum setting:

SnareH (normal snare drum sound, MIDI note 38 and 40 in Addictive Drums)

MNote D2 38
Note D2 38
ANote E2 40
PNote D2 38
Channel 10
Special No
Curve Linear
ComprLvl 0
LvlShift 0
XTalk 2
XTalkGrp 5
Threshold 30
Gain 4
HiLvlAuto No
HighLevel 1023
Retrigger 8
DynLevel 15
DynTime 28
MinScan 40
Dual Head Yes

SnareR (This is configured to be the rimclick sound in the upper right corner of the drum, MIDI note 42 in Addictive Drums)

MNote F#2 42
Note F#2 42
ANote F#2 42
PNote F#2 42
Channel 10
Special Yes
Curve Linear
ComprLvl 0
LvlShift 0
XTalk 2
XTalkGrp 5
Threshold 41
Gain 4
HiLvlAuto Yes
HighLevel 992
Retrigger 8
DynLevel 15
DynTime 0
MinScan 40
Type Switch

MBNote C#2 37 (This is the rimshot sound around the edge of the drum, MIDI notes 37 and 39 in Addictive Drums)
BNote C#2 37
ABNote D#2 39
DBNote C#2 37
PBNote C#2 37
DualMidpoint x
DualMidWidth x
BThreshold 0

With these settings, I now get no sound at all from the snare anymore. These settings worked before I configured the cymbals according to this guide: http://www.megadrum.info/content/settin ... one-cymbal

After another restart, these settings now give random output of three sounds on top of eachother (normal snare sound, rimshot and rimclick)

Install MIDI-OX and check what MIDI data are coming from MegaDrum.

After another restart,

Another restart of what?

these settings now give random output of three sounds on top of eachother (normal snare sound, rimshot and rimclick)

With MIDI-OX take screenshots of what you get when hitting each zone.

The snare is the Yamaha TP120SD pad.

I can't get anything at all in MIDI-OX, see screenshot. Input monitor shows nothing.

What firmware version you have? If it is pre-20110207, are you sure you have not accidentally changed MIDI speed?

My firmware is 20101223, and MIDI speed is 31250. Is that correct?
